The World Food Programme (WFP) says decades of war in Afghanistan have left many people living with disabilities, placing them at greater risk of hunger.
In a message issued on Monday, January 26, the WFP said it will support people with disabilities with assistance from the government of Finland.
The statement said: “The World Food Programme is breaking down barriers to ensure inclusive, safe, and dignified access to food assistance for everyone.”
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says that 1.5 million people in Afghanistan are living with severe disabilities.
The United Nations has stated that nearly a quarter of Afghans, 24.6 percent, are living with mild disabilities, while 40 percent have moderate disabilities, and about 13.9 percent live with severe disabilities.
