The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that hunger and malnutrition are increasing in southern Afghanistan.
The organisation reported on Tuesday, 3 November, that some parents are skipping their own meals to ensure their children have enough to eat.
OCHA added that declining financial resources have reduced the number of families able to receive the assistance they need.
The organisation stressed that vulnerable families need not only food to meet their immediate needs but also opportunities to secure their livelihoods and achieve self-sufficiency in the future.
Afghanistan is facing widespread humanitarian challenges, and OCHA has previously called for urgent funding to ensure that life-saving assistance reaches the most vulnerable individuals and families who need it most.
