Taliban authorities in Ghazni have arrested a young man for allegedly criticizing the group’s actions on social media.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, September 23, that the young man, a resident of Asfanda village in the center of Ghazni, was arrested after posting a critical message about the economic problems facing people.
The Taliban’s police media office in Ghazni said in a statement that the young man was arrested on charges of “propaganda against the system.”
The incident comes as the Taliban has arrested a number of Afghan citizens over the past five years for criticizing the group’s actions since it returned to power in Afghanistan.
The arrests of Taliban critics continue as human rights and international organizations have repeatedly expressed concern over restrictions on freedom of expression and the treatment of the group’s opponents and critics.
