Kabul – China is supposed to spend for the construction of a base for its special police force unit near the Tajik-Afghan border, Reuters reported, quoting the Tajik parliament.

Reuters news agency said on Thursday, (October 28) that the base will be built in the Pamir mountains in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province. The region also borders China’s Xinjiang province and Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province.

However, no Chinese forces would be stationed at the base. The base will be built along the Afghan-Tajik border as tensions remain between Dushanbe and the Taliban government, Tajik parliament spokesperson stressed.

The tensions soared after Tajik president Emomali Rahmon criticized the Taliban’s one-ethnic government, and called on all ethnic groups to join the government.

On the other hand, the Taliban have accused Tajikistan of interfering in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and deployed a special forces unit in the northern areas.
