A new report by the TASS news agency shows that Afghan citizens ranked among the top ten nationalities applying for asylum in Russia during the first nine months of 2025.
TASS reported on Saturday, December 6, 2025, that 211 Afghan nationals submitted asylum applications to Russia during this period.
According to the report, Syria, with 2,823 applications, and Ukraine, with 2,527 applications, top the list of countries whose citizens sought asylum in Russia.
In addition to Afghans, the list includes 153 citizens of Uzbekistan and 93 citizens of Germany, along with asylum seekers from Turkmenistan, Palestine, Armenia, Moldova, and Israel.
This trend comes as many Afghans have fled the country since the Taliban’s return to power, driven by unemployment, insecurity, and threats to their safety.
