Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed Houthi attacks and regional developments during a phone call.
Al Jazeera reported early on August 4 that Erdogan condemned the Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea during the conversation.
According to the report, the Turkish president also welcomed the establishment of a Saudi Arabia-led multinational maritime defense coalition.
Saudi Arabia announced the coalition after the Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks on four Saudi oil tankers and oil facilities, including sites in Jizan and Yanbu, saying the initiative aims to protect shipping in the Red Sea.
The ongoing tensions in the Red Sea, the Gulf crisis, and the conflict between the United States and Iran have further complicated the regional security situation.
