The European Union’s representative office in Afghanistan has allocated €4.7 million to Afghanistan on the occasion of International Literacy Day.
The representative office wrote on its X account on Tuesday, September 8, that the assistance had been allocated to support education and literacy for girls and boys from the People of Afghanistan.
The office said that the allocated funds, with the support of the European Union and in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will provide literacy and livelihood skills to 7,500 people in Afghanistan.
This comes as the European Union had also announced several days earlier that it would provide €10 million in assistance to support agriculture, livelihoods and businesses in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recently announced that around 22 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian assistance.
