France and Italy have restricted some U.S. military operations during the war with Iran, while Spain has closed its airspace to U.S. flights involved in strikes against Iran.
Reuters reported on Tuesday night, March 31, that France has not allowed military flights carrying equipment to Israel to pass through its airspace, and Italy has also denied permission for U.S. aircraft to land at the Sigonella air base in Sicily.
Israel’s Ministry of Defense has accused France of obstructing the transfer of ammunition, despite prior coordination.
Spain has also announced that it will make its bases and airspace available to the United States only for NATO collective defense purposes.
These restrictions come as U.S. President Donald Trump has accused NATO’s European allies of not doing enough and has also described Britain, France, and other countries as “lacking courage.”
It should be noted that all of these countries are NATO members, and Germany hosts the largest U.S. military base in Europe, Ramstein.
