Naseer Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, says that women and young people in Afghanistan must play a meaningful role in decisions that shape their future.
Faiq wrote on his X account on Tuesday, November 3, that Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission is committed to conveying the voices of the country’s women and young people to the United Nations and pursuing their views through its diplomatic activities.
In his opening remarks at a meeting on the aspirations, challenges and opportunities facing young people in Afghanistan, he stressed that the past five years had been marked by instability and widespread restrictions on the country’s youth.
According to Faiq, many young people in Afghanistan have been deprived of continuing their education, lost employment opportunities and faced growing restrictions on their participation in social life.
He added that the consequences of this situation have been particularly severe for girls and young women. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), more than 2.6 million girls have been deprived of secondary education since 2021.
Faiq stressed that boys and young men are also facing poverty, a lack of employment opportunities, declining access to education, and restrictions on freedom of expression.
