Forced Displacement of Residents in Daikundi, Taliban Turns Private Properties and Houses into Military Bases

Hasht-E Subh Hasht-E Subh
1 November 2022 - Solar Hijri Date: 1401/08/10 [t_time:1667317226]

Local sources in Daikundi Province report that the Taliban have deployed more troops to some of the districts of this province, and have forced the residents of these districts to evacuate their private houses and properties, turning them into military bases.

On Tuesday, November 1, sources, speaking to Hasht-e Subh said that the Taliban forces have been deployed to Sangtakht and Bandar, Miramore, Shahristan, Kiti, and Ashtarlai districts and Khidir district is to expect fresh troops’ deployment.

According to sources, the Ministry of Defense of the Taliban has planned a camp with 200 to 350 fighters for each district of Daikundi. Sources added that these forces have forced civilians to evict their houses and properties province and have turned their houses into military bases.

One of the residents of Sangtakht and Bandar Daikundi said that the Taliban fighters came to the district center a few days ago and turned Khatam-ul-Nabin seminary into a military base.

According to this local resident, after the occupation of this seminary, more than 150 boys and girls have stopped studying and the efforts of the elders have not yielded any results.

Sources from Ashtalai district also report that the Taliban have forced five families and two charity organizations to evacuate their houses and offices in Sheikh Miran village of this district in order to accommodate their forces.

A source in Ashtarlai, said that the residents of these houses have been displaced and some of them have migrated to Nili city, the capital of Daikundi province.

It has been mentioned that the residents of Ashtarlai have sent several petitions to the district governor and Taliban governor and have raised their problems, but no attention has been paid to their concerns and petition. Similar reports of forced displacement are received from Kiti, and Miramor districts.

At the same time, with the fresh forces deployed in Daikundi, the residents of this province report and criticize the attack by the Taliban forces.

They call the treatment of Taliban members “violent and inhumane”.

The residents of Daikundi say that the deployment of troops in this province has created tensions among people instead of providing security and asking the Taliban officials in Kabul to supervise their forces and stop their arbitrariness. They claim that Taliban forces arrest and torture civilians under various pretexts.

“The forces freshly deployed force the local residents to provinde them fuel and food, while the people themselves are in a bad economic situation.” Said the localities.

So far, the reason for the movement of Taliban forces in these districts of Daikundi is not clear, and the Taliban have not said anything about it.
