Local sources in Parwan report a targeted assassination of a former government military member by unidentified assailants in the province, following his return from Iran.
According to the sources speaking to the Hasht-e Subh Daily, the former military member, identified as Mustaja Saadullah, was fatally shot on the night of Saturday, February 3rd, in the Kamangar area of Sayed Khel district.
While the exact motives and identities of the perpetrators remain unclear, sources speculate the involvement of the Taliban in this tragic incident.
Reports indicate that Mustaja Saadullah had previously been detained and subjected to severe torture by the Taliban following their regime’s resurgence. However, he was later released from captivity following the intervention of local tribal elders. Subsequently, Saadullah traveled to Iran but returned to Afghanistan approximately two months ago at the behest of local Taliban authorities.
It is pertinent to mention that since the Taliban’s return to power, the group has faced numerous allegations from human rights organizations, including UNAMA, regarding the detention and targeted killings of former government military personnel. However, the Taliban have consistently denied these accusations.
Meanwhile, the Committee to Support Former Afghan Military Personnel has called upon the United Nations, the Red Cross Committee, and other human rights organizations to oversee Taliban detention facilities and advocate for the release of former military personnel.
In a separate incident yesterday, the Taliban detained a former soldier of the National Security Directorate in the Rokha district of Panjshir province.
