Germany’s Interior Ministry has announced that 20 “criminal” asylum seekers from Afghanistan were transferred from Leipzig to Kabul on a charter flight on Thursday morning.
The ministry stated on Thursday, February 26, that these individuals were required to leave Germany and had committed offenses in the country, including sexual crimes and drug-related offenses.
Germany’s Interior Ministry also announced that the country is making serious efforts to facilitate the return of individuals to Afghanistan directly, without the assistance of third countries.
Germany further added: “Today, the first charter flight under this agreement for the regular return of individuals to Afghanistan was carried out.”
Alexander Dobrindt, Germany’s Interior Minister, said that the deportation of criminals is an important part of the country’s migration control and policy, and that this process will continue step by step and with resolve.
This comes as Germany continues the deportation process of asylum seekers from Afghanistan, having previously returned a citizen of Afghanistan to Kabul who had been convicted in the country on security and judicial grounds.
