Amid ongoing insecurity in Nigeria, armed men abducted 25 people and killed three others in two separate attacks in Kwara State.
Reuters reported on Monday, May 25, that gunmen attacked a police station and the palace of a local ruler in the Yashikira area of Kwara State early Sunday morning.
According to the report, the attackers set parts of the palace of the Emir of Yashikira on fire after assaulting the police station. They also abducted 10 local residents.
Kwara State police said security forces managed to repel the attack on the police station. However, the attackers escaped to an unknown location after kidnapping the victims.
In a separate incident, armed men attacked a nighttime prayer gathering in the Ekiti area of the state on Friday evening.
Police said the attackers opened fire on participants at the gathering, killing three people and abducting 15 others.
Nigerian security officials said a joint operation involving the army, local forces, and special units has been launched to search for the victims and arrest those responsible for the attacks.
In recent years, attacks by armed groups and ransom-related kidnappings have increased in northern and central Nigeria, raising concerns about the worsening security situation in the country.
