Marking the International Day of Women in Science, the United Nations says the Taliban have deprived Afghan women and girls of work and education for more than four years.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 11, the organization said that equality in education is fundamental to human progress.

The statement reads: “This is also vital for shaping a future in which technology and artificial intelligence serve as essential pillars of prosperity.”

According to the statement, the ban on girls’ education not only marginalizes them but also poses a serious obstacle to long-term progress and prosperity.

The United Nations called on the Taliban to allow girls and women to continue their education.

UNAMA also issued a message on the International Day of Women in Science, urging the reopening of schools.
