Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said that US President Donald Trump’s remarks about the Islamabad memorandum of understanding indicate Washington’s “disregard for diplomacy.”
In a post on X early Wednesday, October 28, Baghaei wrote that Trump’s admission that he had never believed in the memorandum and had considered it a waste of time had exposed the hollowness of the United States’ diplomatic commitments.
He accused Washington of repeatedly violating its commitments and treating international obligations as disposable whenever they become inconvenient.
Baghaei also criticised European countries and others for what he described as shielding Washington from accountability.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson wrote: “Broken commitments cannot be justified, international law cannot be applied selectively, and no amount of political spin can absolve Washington of accountability.”
This comes after Donald Trump said at an election rally on Tuesday that he had never believed in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and had considered it a “waste of time.”
