Iranian media have reported the execution of two individuals accused of leading and participating in “anti-government” protests in early 2026.
The Mizan News Agency reported on Tuesday, June 16, that the two individuals were named Javad Zamani and Abolfazl Saeedi, and that their death sentences were carried out today.
According to the report, they were convicted on charges including “deliberate destruction of public and private property with the intent to oppose the Islamic Republic system, disrupting public order and security, and assembly and collusion to commit crimes against internal security.”
Mizan News Agency, affiliated with Iran’s judiciary, described the two as “leaders of armed unrest in early 2026.”
Meanwhile, Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said that since the beginning of 2026, Iran has executed at least 40 people, including 18 protesters, on national security-related charges.
Türk also accused Iranian authorities of intensifying repression against protesters and expressed concern over the rising number of executions in the country.
