Rahim Safavi, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, said that China and Russia are somewhat supportive of Iran and occasionally provide Tehran with limited non-political assistance.
Tasnim reported Tuesday night, September 22, that Safavi made the remarks during a televised interview.
According to the report, Safavi said that many resolutions against Iran have been vetoed by the two countries at the United Nations Security Council.
He added: “The Russian Federation and China are somewhat supportive of Iran. At least politically, they support Iran’s positions in international forums. Many resolutions against Iran were vetoed by these two countries, and those vetoes themselves were a major help to us. Of course, these two countries also provide us with some limited assistance.”
However, the Iranian official did not specify the nature of the “limited assistance” provided by China and Russia to Iran. During the recent conflict between Iran and the United States, some sources had reported that China and Russia provided Tehran with intelligence and satellite assistance.
