The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that, with financial support from the Italian government, thousands of families in Nangarhar and Laghman provinces have gained access to essential primary healthcare services.
The organization reported on Tuesday, September 22, that as of September 2026, a total of 68,263 people, including returnees, had accessed healthcare services through this financial assistance.
According to the report, the services provided included maternal and child healthcare, vaccination, nutrition screening, mental health services and outpatient treatment.
The United Nations said the programme is particularly important for families who face difficulties accessing health facilities due to long distances, transportation costs and challenging routes.
The World Health Organization added that financial support from the Italian government has helped provide primary healthcare services to vulnerable communities in these two provinces.
