Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, says Iran was prepared to strike three locations in Ukraine but called off the planned attacks after receiving what he described as an apology from Ukraine.
Iran’s Fars News Agency reported early on August 4 that the planned strikes were intended as a response to what it said was a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian vessel several days earlier.
According to the report, Rezaei said Ukrainian officials acknowledged that the attack on the Iranian ship had been a mistake, prompting Iran to cancel its planned strikes.
His remarks come as tensions between Iran and the United States over control of the Strait of Hormuz continue, while escalating tensions in the Red Sea have added to regional instability.
