Ali al-Zaydi, Iraq’s prime minister, has introduced a bill to strengthen government oversight and control of weapons.
Anadolu Agency reported late Tuesday, August 11, that the Iraqi prime minister called for coordination between the legislature and the government to strengthen stability and support government programs.
According to the report, the Iraqi prime minister emphasized ensuring security and stability and protecting the country’s borders and airspace against threats.
However, the widespread presence of weapons outside the control of the Iraqi government, including those held by groups such as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), remains one of the country’s biggest security and political challenges.
