Sources report that Nasir Ahmad Ahmadi, the commander of Taliban Security District 11 in Kabul, has sold one of the vehicles he seized from the U.S. Embassy following the fall of the previous government. According to sources, he had a Hilux pickup truck repainted and covertly sold it, and no one outside his inner circle has known about the transaction. Sources say he initially valued the Hilux at $7,500, then traded it for two personal vehicles, one of which he has already sold, while the other remains listed for sale.

Sources say that when Kabul fell to the Taliban, Ahmadi was among the first to enter the U.S. Embassy compound, where he stayed for about a month before being appointed by the Taliban’s Interior Minister as commander of Security District 11 in the city.

Sources add that he transferred four vehicles from the embassy to the district. The vehicles Ahmadi brought with him reportedly included one black Land Cruiser, one armored gray Hilux, one white Lexus, and one plain gray Hilux.

A credible source said, “It has now been about a year and a half since he secretly sold that gray Hilux. Before putting it up for sale, they had it repainted white at a shop in the Babajan area. It was a 2008 model that sold at a dealership for $7,500, and two personal vehicles were taken in exchange.”

The same source added: “As part of that deal, a key for two additional vehicles was also handed over. One was a Toyota Prius, which he still has, and the other was a Vitz, which he sold for 180,000 Afghani. He has now put the Toyota Prius up for sale as well. He has turned public property into personal assets.”

The source noted that those close to Ahmadi are aware of the vehicle sales but are too afraid to speak out. According to the source, only five people currently know about the matter, while other personnel in Taliban Security District 11 remain unaware of the sales, which were conducted under various names.

Sources said: “At the time of the sale, the dealer pointed out that if the vehicle had no government registration, it would not be traceable. Someone in the district’s traffic section then looked into the matter and confirmed the vehicle was not registered with the government. The dealer, reassured, proceeded with the deal, and a contract was drawn up for the transaction.”

Sources say the Taliban official is originally from the Musa Qala district of Kabul and has married three additional times and acquired four houses since the group took control of Afghanistan. Sources also claim that Ahmadi has been involved in selling tanks left over from the Soviet-era war in the Babajan area.

This comes against a backdrop of numerous previous reports detailing the sale of government vehicles and personal property belonging to citizens of Afghanistan that fell into Taliban hands after the collapse of the former government. Sources, citing Taliban fighters, say the absence of accountability has enabled the abuse of authority and the embezzlement of public assets. They stress that bringing these matters to light could prevent, or at least curb, the widespread and unchecked sale of such property.

Multiple reports have also been published previously about the Taliban selling weapons and military equipment left behind by the United States in Afghanistan. According to those reports, during the early years of their rule, the Taliban sold or illegally smuggled more than 500,000 weapons of various types to terrorist groups. The United Nations (UN) has stated that some of these weapons have reached groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

The Taliban have converted part of the former U.S. Embassy building in Kabul into a religious school. Video footage circulated on social media shows children and teenagers receiving religious instruction inside the building.
