Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has welcomed the announced agreement between the United States and Iran to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as an important step toward reducing regional tensions.
In a post on X on Monday, June 15, Kallas said the agreement could create the necessary conditions for deeper negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and other key issues.
She added that, if implemented, the agreement could also help ease the global energy crisis and contribute to greater stability in international markets.
The EU’s foreign policy chief said she had recently held talks with Iranian officials and countries in the Gulf region. She added that EU foreign ministers would discuss how the bloc could contribute to the next phase of the process.
Kallas stressed that the European Union, drawing on its economic capabilities, nuclear expertise, and long-standing ties with countries in the region, stands ready to play a role in achieving a lasting solution.
She described the agreement as a “potential breakthrough” and expressed hope that its implementation would lead to expanded diplomatic dialogue and a reduction in regional tensions.
