Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan’s former president, has highlighted the importance of education for Afghan girls and boys on Teachers’ Day, describing universal education as vital to the “independence and dignity of the Afghan nation.”

Karzai said in a post on X on Monday, October 5, that despite limited resources and difficult conditions, teachers have consistently played an important role in educating and raising future generations and have carried out their national duty with honesty, loyalty and commitment.

He said teachers are the people who guide society toward the light of science and knowledge.

Karzai added that by educating young people, teachers help create the conditions for defending and protecting the country, achieving self-sufficiency and living with dignity.

In his message marking Teachers’ Day, the former Afghan president thanked all teachers across the country and congratulated them on the occasion.
