Local sources in Maidan Wardak report clashes between Kuchis and residents in Hisa-e Awal Behsud district, as well as the beating of several individuals.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, September 2, that physical clashes between Kuchis and residents in the district had occurred twice over the previous two days.
According to the sources, the first clash occurred last Monday, when Kuchis were grazing their sheep in people’s cultivated fields, and residents attempted to prevent them from entering the agricultural lands.
The sources say that one resident sustained serious injuries to the head during the clash, while a Kuchi individual was also injured.
They say that following the incident, the “Kuchi and Settler Dispute Resolution Commission” unilaterally ruled that the landowner, despite being injured and having his crops damaged, must pay 80,000 afghanis in blood money to the Kuchi individual.
Residents consider the decision one-sided and say that such a ruling has intensified tensions.
According to them, the Kuchis again grazed their sheep in people’s cultivated fields on Wednesday, leading to another clash between the two sides.
This comes as clashes and disputes over land and grazing areas between Kuchis and residents of central and Hazara-populated areas of Afghanistan have been reported repeatedly in the past.
