Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, said that his country views the possibility of resuming peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul positively.
Lavrov said on Saturday, April 18, at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum that although resuming talks is not currently Moscow’s top priority, Russia is ready to enter negotiations if the other side is willing.
He emphasized that Russia has never imposed negotiations on anyone and, if Ukraine puts forward a proposal, Moscow is ready to consider the time, place, and agenda of the talks.
Russia’s Foreign Minister added that Moscow is not avoiding negotiations; however, according to him, the experience of previous talks with Ukraine has not been particularly positive.
Lavrov also referred to the previous talks in Istanbul, which led to prisoner exchanges and the drafting of proposals for a possible peace agreement.
