Saifuddin Laton, the Taliban governor’s spokesman in Panjshir, has announced the sale of more than 6,639 carats of emeralds from the province.
Laton said on Tuesday, September 29, that the emeralds, valued at 7,341,500 Afghanis, were sold at an auction.
Panjshir is one of the well-known areas of Afghanistan for emerald mining. In recent years, the Taliban have announced holding emerald auctions and sell the gemstones to traders.
Since retaking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have extensively launched mining operations across the country and the sale of its mineral products.
