Local sources say the Taliban have arrested Gul Mohammad Shukran, the former head of the anti-narcotics department in Kandahar under the previous government, and his son, Nazir Ahmad Shukran.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, September 29, that Gul Mohammad Shukran had been working at a private hospital in Kandahar city since the fall of the republic.
According to the sources, the reason for the arrest of Gul Mohammad Shukran and his son remains unclear.
In recent weeks, cases of Taliban arrests of former civilian and military government employees have increased.
Since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, there have also been reports of the detention and intimidation of former government employees and security forces.
The trend has raised concerns among the public and human rights organizations.
