Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, met with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, to discuss bilateral relations, including security cooperation.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday, October 6, that the meeting addressed relations between the Taliban and Russia, regional security, the fight against narcotics, and strengthening security cooperation between the two sides.
Muttaqi thanked the Russian leadership for recognizing the Taliban during the meeting.
The Taliban’s foreign minister said the group would continue its efforts to ensure regional security and combat narcotics.
He also emphasized expanding relations with countries in the region through direct contacts and practical cooperation.
Meanwhile, Sergei Shoigu said relations between the Taliban and Russia were expanding in various areas.
The Secretary of Russia’s Security Council emphasized that political consultations and practical cooperation between the Taliban and Russia would continue.
