The Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (STFA) has announced that more than three million people in five northern provinces of Afghanistan have benefited from humanitarian and development assistance and services through a joint programme with 12 United Nations agencies.
The fund said in a report on Tuesday, October 6, that women and girls accounted for 53 percent of those who benefited from the programmes.
The joint programme of the Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan was implemented in the provinces of Balkh, Samangan, Sar-e Pol, Faryab and Jawzjan.
According to the report, more than 2.5 million people gained access to basic services and improved infrastructure.
Meanwhile, more than 459,000 women, children and vulnerable people received health services and psychosocial support.
At the same time, more than 17,000 families benefited from livelihood and economic support.
The report said that support was also provided to more than 4,309 businesses and entrepreneurs, 79 percent of which were owned by women.
Around 290,000 people also benefited from programmes aimed at strengthening resilience to climate change and drought.
According to the report, 42,600 women and girls participated in literacy, livelihood, psychosocial and social activities programmes.
The Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan said these services were provided from 2022 to 2025 in five northern provinces to strengthen basic services, livelihoods, resilience to climate change, and social cohesion.
