Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has declared victory after preliminary parliamentary election results showed his party leading with about 54 percent of the vote.
CBC News reported on Monday, June 8, that according to initial results released from polling stations, Pashinyan’s “Civil Contract” party is leading the election race.
Pashinyan said at a press conference that his party had won the election, describing the result as a “historic victory.”
According to the report, the opposition “Strong Armenia” party came in second with 21.9 percent of the vote, while the “Armenia Alliance” ranked third with 8.7 percent.
This election is considered the first nationwide vote since Armenia’s military defeat against Azerbaijan in 2023, making it an important test of Pashinyan’s foreign policy.
Meanwhile, voter turnout in Armenia’s parliamentary election was reported at around 59 percent of eligible voters.
