The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that the 2025 drought in northern and western Afghanistan has affected 3.4 million people.
OCHA said in a statement on Monday, May 4, that the drought has damaged crops, livestock, and livelihoods.
The agency added that with support from the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund, partners are providing food assistance.
The organization emphasized that there is an urgent need for additional support.
The United Nations had previously announced that nearly 22 million people in Afghanistan would require humanitarian assistance in 2026.
Afghanistan has experienced devastating droughts in recent years.
