The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated that drought has inflicted the most severe impact on Faryab province in Afghanistan.
On Sunday, 31 August 2025, OCHA reported that Faryab has faced the most intense drought crisis over the past five years.
The organization noted that reduced vegetation cover, low rainfall, and insufficient soil moisture have worsened the situation.
OCHA emphasized that the livelihoods and food security of thousands of families are now at risk.
This comes as the income of the people of Faryab is largely dependent on agriculture and livestock.
UN agencies have repeatedly warned about drought in Afghanistan and called for action to combat climate change.
