Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s president, has said that reaching an agreement with the United States was the result of lengthy discussions and a consensus among experts from all sides within Iran.
Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday, August 23, that Pezeshkian made the remarks in response to criticism over the signing of the Islamabad agreement.
According to the report, Pezeshkian said that at the time, all sides, both military and civilian, had concluded that reaching an agreement was in the country’s best interest.
He said: “What we reached after lengthy discussions and negotiations was the result of an expert consensus among everyone who was involved.”
Pezeshkian called domestic critics of the Islamabad agreement uninformed and unwilling to listen.
This comes as, following the expiration of the 60-day period set under the Islamabad agreement, US President Donald Trump announced that he was not interested in extending the agreement with Iran.
However, Masoud Pezeshkian and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi faced widespread criticism from Iranian hardliners after the agreement was signed.
