Vladimir Putin has signed a decree granting partial debt relief to newly recruited troops fighting in Ukraine and their families.
Reuters reported on Monday night, May 25, that individuals who signed contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry from May 1 onward, as well as their spouses, will be exempt from paying debts of up to 10 million rubles if legal proceedings to recover those debts had been filed before that date.
According to the report, the contract to join the war in Ukraine must be signed for at least one year.
The measure has been described as part of Russia’s broader support programs aimed at recruiting more personnel for the war in Ukraine.
Russia had previously introduced various financial and educational benefits for troops participating in the war.
The Kremlin also announced that Putin signed another decree extending, without limitation, the right of troops involved in the Ukraine war to lease state-owned land.
