Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, has warned that Afghanistan refugees in Iran are among the most vulnerable groups amid the ongoing conflict in the country.
Bennett wrote on X on Saturday, July 25, that Afghanistan refugees in Iran are often overlooked despite the ongoing hostilities.
He also described the continued implementation of death sentences in Iran, including the execution of citizens of Afghanistan, as deeply regrettable and called for greater attention to the human rights situation of refugees in the country.
Meanwhile, United Nations (UN) experts, in a statement, condemned the resumption of hostilities between the United States and Iran and the expansion of the conflict across the region just weeks after the signing of a peace memorandum of understanding.
They warned that abandoning these commitments would undermine the prospects for achieving peace, damage human rights, and erode confidence in international agreements.
