Local sources say that oil and gas prices in southern Afghanistan have increased since yesterday, raising concerns among the public.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, August 24, that the price of one litre of oil in markets across the southern region has reached 88 to 90 afghanis.
According to the sources, about two and a half months ago, the price of one litre of oil in Afghanistan’s markets was 57 afghanis.
They said the increase in fuel prices has also caused the prices of food and other goods to rise in the markets.
The sources further said that increases in passenger and freight transport fares have contributed to the rise in commodity prices.
The Taliban have so far not explained the increase in oil and gas prices in Afghanistan.
