Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, has announced that as part of his ongoing mediation efforts, he will travel to Saudi Arabia and Turkey this week to help create conditions for the resumption of US–Iran negotiations.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 14, Sharif said that behind-the-scenes talks aimed at facilitating a second round of peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran are continuing, and that Islamabad will play an active role in this process.
Despite 21 hours of face-to-face talks between US Vice President JD Vance and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, which ended without results on Sunday, Trump said negotiations could resume in Islamabad within the next two days.
Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has said that there is a “high probability” that ceasefire talks will restart and diplomacy between the two sides will continue.
