International media outlets have reported that two people were injured near the White House in Washington, D.C., following a confrontation between an armed individual and U.S. Secret Service agents.

CNN reported on Saturday night, May 23, that the incident occurred earlier that day near the White House.

According to the report, gunshots were heard around the White House, prompting a security lockdown inside and around the White House complex.

The U.S. Secret Service said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and that further details remain unclear.

During the incident, journalists present on the North Lawn of the White House were moved into the press briefing room and instructed to take shelter.

At the same time, armed officers carrying heavy weapons were deployed across the area, and parts of the White House complex were temporarily sealed off.

The security lockdown was lifted after about an hour.

The incident comes amid several previous reports of shootings near the White House.
