Sources in Badakhshan say that more than 120 followers of Jumma Fateh have handed over their weapons to the Taliban under guarantees from local elders.
The sources told The Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, August 20, that the individuals returned from the villages of Qoghaz, Wajam, Shakh Dara, Jamarch Nasi, and Mah-e-Naw Shaki and surrendered their weapons.
According to the sources, Taliban fighters went to remote villages and announced that those who handed over their weapons would not be harassed or detained.
The sources said that the Taliban’s weapons collection commission is stationed in Kharkad Shuryan village.
They also said that Taliban fighters had detained three civilians from Shakh Dara and seven others from Arkhad Joy Dara.
This comes as numerous reports of harassment, mistreatment, and abuse of local residents by Taliban fighters in Badakhshan have emerged in recent days.
