The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported that an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz struck a tanker.

The organization said on Thursday, August 27, on X that the tanker caught fire after being hit by the projectile.

According to the organization, the fire has been extinguished, and no crew members were injured.

It also reported that the fire did not have any adverse environmental impact and that the incident is under investigation.

Meanwhile, commercial vessels and oil tankers have been advised to navigate with caution and report any suspicious activity.

This comes after media reports on Wednesday said that Oman and Iran had reached an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Iranian officials have stressed that the agreement with Oman does not mean the Strait of Hormuz has been reopened, saying that the matter depends on the United States’ actions toward Tehran.
