Local sources in Kandahar say that the Taliban arrested 18 shopkeepers yesterday evening who were engaged in selling goods needed by women, including “women’s underwear.”
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, August 13, confirming that the shopkeepers were arrested yesterday afternoon by the Taliban’s Morality Police in the Rang-Rizan Alley, near Shahidan Square in Kandahar city.
According to the sources, all of the individuals were shopkeepers who bought and sold goods related to women.
The sources added that most of the shopkeepers were arrested on charges of shaving their beards and for buying and selling goods while dealing with women.
This comes as the Taliban have repeatedly arrested citizens of the country on various charges, including “vice.”
Sources had previously reported that the Taliban had arrested several employees of United Nations agencies in Herat on charges of shaving their beards or having short beards.
