The Taliban have announced that work on paving the Farah-Farah Rud road in Farah Province has begun at a cost of more than 982 million Afghanis.
Bakhtar News Agency, which is controlled by the Taliban, reported on Sunday, October 4, that the project was launched by the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works and is expected to be completed within 16 months.
Mohammad Wali Idris, the Taliban’s director of public works in Farah, said the road is more than 61 kilometres long and 11 metres wide.
Mohammad Gul Khaibar, the Taliban’s deputy governor in Farah, said the road is an international route through which Afghanistan’s commercial goods will be transported to Iran and other countries.
The Taliban have also urged traders, the public and drivers to refrain from transporting loads exceeding the permitted weight limit along this route.
This comes as the Taliban have announced the implementation of various development projects over the past five years. However, according to sources, these projects have failed to address people’s fundamental problems and have deteriorated again just a few months after completion.
