The Taliban Supreme Court has announced that 17 individuals were flogged in Nimruz province on charges of beating their father, extramarital relations, and theft.
The court stated in a press release on Thursday, April 2, that each of these individuals was sentenced to 15 to 39 lashes and, in addition, received prison terms ranging from five months to eight years.
According to the press release, this ruling was issued by the Taliban primary court in Nimruz province and was carried out after being confirmed by the Taliban Supreme Court.
The use of corporal punishment, including public flogging, has been a controversial issue in Afghanistan for years.
International and domestic human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that the implementation of corporal punishment, especially in public, constitutes a serious violation of human rights and human dignity.
