Taliban Order Private Universities to Refrain from Giving Admission to Women
The Taliban ordered private universities and non-profit education institutions to refrain from providing admissions to women.
Based on a copy of the letter issued by the Taliban-led Higher Education Ministry, gone viral on social media on Saturday, January 28, universities and private educational institutions have been ordered not to take entrance exams from girls and not to enroll women.
The letter also states that universities and private educational institutions are obliged to inform the Ministry and the National Examinations Office five days before the entrance exam, so that a joint committee can be appointed to supervise the entrance exam process.
The Taliban-run Ministry of Higher Education previously banned university education for women until further notice.
The newest order of the Taliban has turned hopes of reversal of the university education ban for women, at least in the upcoming academic year, into despair.
