Local sources in Herat report that the Taliban have prevented a 68-year-old woman suffering from cancer from entering a hospital without wearing a burqa.
These sources confirmed to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, that the Taliban at the regional hospital in Herat city instructed both patients and their attendants to wear burqas.
An eyewitness said, “My mother has blood cancer, and we were forced to keep her waiting outside the hospital gate for two hours until we managed to borrow a burqa from our neighbors. Only then were we allowed to enter the hospital.”
This comes as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), in its recent report, noted that women without a male guardian have been denied access to healthcare services in the provinces of Kunar, Kandahar, and Khost.
The Taliban have also warned doctors not to treat female patients who are not wearing a hijab.
