The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that it is supporting the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory in Bamyan with financial assistance from the European Union (EU).
In a post on its X account on Tuesday, 3 November, the organisation said the partnership aims to strengthen people’s access to essential diagnostic services.
The WHO added that the laboratory has so far conducted 1,215 tests for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, COVID-19 and microbiological examinations.
According to the organisation, strengthening diagnostic services at the facility will help with the early detection of infectious diseases and enable patients to receive timely treatment.
The support comes at a time when many people in Afghanistan have limited access to quality healthcare services, particularly specialised diagnostic services.
Patients are forced to pay high costs to obtain these services and travel long distances to healthcare facilities in other cities.
