Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of the World Health Organization, has announced that at least six health centers in Afghanistan have been damaged as a result of escalating clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan.
Adhanom wrote on Tuesday, March 17, on his X page, referring to Pakistan’s attack on a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul, that the World Health Organization is assessing and verifying these incidents.
He emphasized that these conditions endanger the health and well-being of vulnerable individuals and called on all parties to de-escalate tensions and prioritize “peace and health.”
These remarks come as the International Organization for Migration (IOM) had earlier also announced that recent attacks near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have caused serious damage to the organization’s transit center in Torkham.
Border clashes and attacks between the Taliban and Pakistan are ongoing, and the Taliban claimed that approximately 400 people were killed in last night’s attack by Islamabad on the drug rehabilitation center in Kabul.
However, Pakistan has denied targeting civilian infrastructure and claims that it has bombed Taliban military centers.
