The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that global tobacco leaf production decreased by 18.8 percent between 2012 and 2024, while production in Africa increased by 8.6 percent.
The WHO said on Monday, August 31, that the number of tobacco users worldwide decreased from 1.379 billion in 2000 to 1.202 billion in 2024.
According to the report, the number of tobacco users in the WHO African Region increased from 59 million to 65 million.
The WHO has called on countries to take further action to reduce their dependence on tobacco production and address its health and economic consequences.
