The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and its partners have announced the launch of a global initiative to improve access to mpox vaccines.
UNICEF said on Thursday, September 3, on X that a vaccine stockpile will be established as part of the initiative.
The stockpile will aim to ensure rapid access to vaccines for children, families, and communities at greatest risk of contracting mpox.
UNICEF said the initiative is intended to strengthen preparedness for disease outbreaks and accelerate vaccine access for vulnerable groups.
Mpox has existed in parts of Africa since 1970, but became a major global health concern in 2022 after spreading internationally.
