The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has said that by 2060, one in every two Afghans could be living in cities.
UN-Habitat said on Monday, October 5, in a post on X that World Habitat Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the opportunities and challenges facing cities.
The UN said Afghanistan’s cities are expanding rapidly and that urbanization is expected to continue in the coming years.
The agency added that the growth of the urban population will bring significant changes to Afghanistan and that greater action and investment will be needed to manage the process.
UN-Habitat emphasized the need for increased investment in cities so that urbanization can contribute to inclusive growth.
